Jo is a personal project, a photo book dedicated to my aunt’s life through archive images and her personal diary.
Exploring the combination of photography and writing, the project is intended as a tribute to a special person.
A subsequent booklet analyses the creative journey and delves into the process of the work, addressing issues of ethics and memory. Through this research, an attempt is made to understand how visual art can tell intimate stories, reflecting on human challenges and beauty in fragility.
Jo is keen to honour my aunt’s memory and deepen our connection by exploring her past.
Among the most significant discoveries were photographs of her as a young woman, when she was pursuing a modelling career, and diaries containing fragments of her story,
including a recipe book in which she wrote about herself in the third person. All this is encapsulated in the photobook I am presenting. It combines images of my aunt with a text that aims to paint through each page her beauty and the depth of her love for the world. The project is an attempt to celebrate her life and go beyond suffering to reveal the fascinating person she was.
